The first ship in the class, Icon of the Seas, is due to launch in January 2024 with a capacity of 7,600 passengers, which will make it the world’s largest cruise ship. Icon will be based out of Miami and sail itineraries around the eastern and western Caribbean.
Star of the Seas will be the second of three Icon Class vessels and is due to make its debut in summer 2025.
Royal Caribbean is promising a “line-up of new experiences and favourites” onboard Star of the Seas, although details of these new attractions will be released at a later date.
Michael Bayley, president and chief executive of Royal Caribbean International, said: “The idea of combining the best of every type of vacation into one ultimate adventure has created more excitement than ever anticipated, and Star of the Seas will be the next bold answer to the record-breaking consumer demand we’ve seen for nearly a year and counting with Icon of the Seas.”
Star of the Seas will also be the line’s third ship to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), as well as featuring a series of other enhancements such as waste heat recovery systems and shore power connection.
