It comes due to the growth in direct flight capacity from London airports and the increasing demand from British leisure travellers to return to the destination.
The number of direct routes from London to Cape Town in 2022/23 are set to exceed 2019/20 levels, with the introduction of Virgin Atlantic’s direct flight from Heathrow in November, and British Airways’ recommencement of its three-times weekly Gatwick service from November to March, as well as twice-daily flights from Heathrow.
Both airlines also offer daily flights from Heathrow to Johannesburg. Kgomotso Ramothea, acting hub head UK and Ireland for South African Tourism, said: "South Africa is well known as an amazing destination for winter sun.
"The increase in flights will be a great boost to tourism, not only for Cape Town and Johannesburg, but beyond the cities into the regions, which offer unique experiences for British travellers – including world-class safaris, sun-soaked beaches, cultural adventures and stunning scenery."
