A former army nurse has been awarded £225,000 in compensation by Thomson Holidays following an injury sustained in a dance class.

Kathleen Powell claimed she was forced to give up her job after breaking three bones in her leg and two toes.

She also told the court she continued to suffer pain from her injuries despite an operation to have four screws placed into her ankle.

The accident occurred in Tenerife in January 2006, when Powell fell on a wet floor during a salsa class.
