A recent survey of the homeworking giant’s talent pool revealed more than 70% of those looking for new career opportunities with the firm were currently working outside the travel industry, with two-thirds hopeful of setting up their own travel business within the next year.
The main reasons for wanting to become a TC included having more control over work/life balance, the flexibility that comes with self-employment, a love of travel and interacting with people, and an urge to embrace a new challenge.
Travel Counsellors, which currently has around 1,400 homeworkers in the UK and 1,900 globally, is embarking on a major recruitment campaign after more than 300 TCs reported their best-ever selling months in January 2022. Some 240 individuals have started new businesses with Travel Counsellors since March 2020.
Head of recruitment Matt Harding attributed some of the interest to the greater demand among consumers for the services of trusted travel professionals in the wake of the Covid crisis.
"Customers are looking for trusted advice and a highly personalised service more than ever before," he said.
"As a result, many of our existing Travel Counsellors have had their most successful ever start to the year and we want to show potential joiners that with the right tools and support, anything is possible."
