Crete and Mallorca have been confirmed as two of three destinations for sustainability-focused fam trips in 2023, with TTG asking agents to put themselves forward for the departures before 31 March.
The three trips are being hosted by Avis, G Touring (Just You and Travelsphere), Iberostar and Intrepid. Avis and Intrepid will team up to take a group of agents to the Greek island of Crete, Iberostar will take a group to Mallorca in the Balearic Islands and G Touring will take a group to a destination yet to be revealed, although the operator has hinted its fam trip could take place in Asia.
The three trips are part of the TTG Sustainable Travel Heroes initiative, in which the suppliers listed above plus Hurtigruten Group are working with TTG to help educate UK and Irish travel agents on responsible tourism and how to sell it better.
“Our research showed the 2022 TTG Sustainable Travel Heroes programme successfully inspired, educated and empowered travel agents to sell more responsible holidays,” said Madeleine Barber, TTG Media’s special projects editor.
“Last year TTG, in collaboration with its supplier partners, took more than 35 travel agents on sustainability-focused fam trips visiting Peru, Mallorca, Norway and Vietnam, and every single one of them returned equipped with the knowledge, tools and contacts needed to increase their sustainable holiday sales.
“This year we’re taking the programme further than features, videos and fam trips; we’re looking to appoint 20 agents as TTG Sustainable Travel Ambassadors to lead the charge in selling responsible tourism and to encourage their peers to do the same.”
The programme’s 2023 fam trips will be attended almost exclusively by these Ambassadors, so for a chance to join these departures agents need to apply to become a TTG Sustainable Travel Ambassador.
As well as receive the fam trip invites, Ambassadors will gain access to tailored promotional assets, educational workshops, support with hosting client events, marketing spend and other supplier rewards.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for travel agents to play their part in building a Smarter, Better, Fairer travel industry,” said Barber.
Applications close at midnight on 31 March.
