The Atol scheme should be strengthened, rather than scrapped or left as it is. That was the consensus of a panel of Atol experts, who were quizzed last week as to which of the Department for Transport’s three outcomes for the CAA’s financial protection scheme they believed would be best for the industry.

The overwhelming conclusion from the debate, which examined the effectiveness of the industry’s regulatory bodies, was that Atol still had a place in the industry, but that it needed significant reform.
