The airport has this year successfully trialled new CT scanners, which allow passengers to leave liquids in their hand luggage when passing through security.
LCY now plans to replace its conventional security ex-ray scanners with CT models, with the upgrade due to be completed in time for the summer season.
CT scanners also allow travellers to leave laptops and other items they previously had to remove from their hand luggage in their bags at security.
London City on Friday (25 November) claimed that by April, it would be among the first UK airports to operate a fully CT security proposition.
Chief operating officer Alison FitzGerald said the new scanners, which can process up to 550 trays per hour per security lane, would speed up passengers’ airport journey and ensure even better security standards.
