The two sides talked in the South African capital Pretoria in a meeting instigated by the UK High Commission and the South African government.
A High Commission spokesperson said data and expertise had been openly shared.
“The insights provided will feed into the next review of UK border measures which is due to take place within the next fortnight.”
The countries also discussed recognition of each other’s vaccine certificates, with the UK saying it wanted to extend its acceptance of vaccine certificates globally “as soon as possible”.
“The UK expressed its willingness to take forward discussions with the South Africa government on this matter,” the spokesperson said.
The meeting followed moves by Germany, which last week lifted restrictions on South African visitors, with vaccinated and recovered travellers being allowed to enter for tourism purposes.
