The move comes as part of the carrier’s joint initiative with not-for-profit organisations Choose Love, The Shapiro Foundation, The Steve Morgan Foundation and USPUK. 4,500 free tickets are still available.
The partnership was launched in May with an initial 10,000 free tickets available until 15 June. Extending the initiative until the end of June allows more Ukrainian refugees flying from Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia to travel to the UK in support of the government’s Homes for Ukraine visa scheme.
Since May, the initiative has made free travel available to more than 5,000 refugees. As of 14 June, the UK government has issued 88,000 visas to Ukrainians under its visa scheme.
The Wizz Air free tickets are available on a total of 61 routes the airline operates from Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia to the UK, and include one hand luggage item and one checked-in luggage item (up to 32kg) per person.
Jozsef Varadi, chief executive officer of Wizz Air, said: "We are pleased that Wizz Air is able to continue to support Ukrainian refugees as part of the UK government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme.
"By extending our offer of free tickets until the end of June, we hope that many more Ukrainians will reach the UK and be connected with their sponsor."
