EasyJet has removed around 1.4 million seats from its winter and summer schedules in recent months

Kenton Jarvis, the airline's Chief Executive, said an extra 700,000 seats will be removed during the quieter months.

It comes after the carrier said in the summer that it would reduce seat numbers by 700,000, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Jet fuel prices nearly doubled following the outbreak of the war on Iran, triggering supply chain disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Jarvis said: "People are taking capacity out, we see that across all competitors,” adding that the moves were “no surprise” given that fuel prices have stayed unexpectedly high.
