The carrier will operate up to 86 flights a week from Newcastle – almost double the number it offered last year – with the programme stretching to around 800,000 seats this summer.
Among the 22 new routes taking off from Newcastle this week are Antalya, Corfu, Dalaman, Enfidha, Faro, Lisbon, Malta, Nice, Prague, Reus, Rhodes, Rome, Sharm-El-Sheikh and Tenerife.
Chief executive Kenton Jarvis said the new base would strengthen connectivity in northeast England, southern Scotland, north Yorkshire and Cumbria.
"This is a significant milestone that underlines our continued growth and investment in the UK," said Jarvis. "Aviation plays a vital role in enabling economic growth, and this new base will support skilled jobs, boost regional connectivity and help drive prosperity here in the north east and beyond."
Nick Jones, Newcastle airport's chief executive, welcomed easyJet ahead of the airport's "busiest year on record", with approximately six million passengers expected.
He said: "easyJet's investment is a huge vote of confidence in the airport and the north east, and it will play a vital role in helping us meet the growing demand for flights and package holidays."
EasyJet said Palma, Alicante and Rhodes were so far proving the most popular package holiday destinations from Newcastle airport this summer.
Newcastle becomes easyJet's third new UK base in as many years, following the launch of its Birmingham and Southend bases in 2024 and 2025 respectively.
EasyJet is assigning eight new aircraft to a handful of its UK bases this summer; besides Newcastle, there will be new based aircraft at Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow airports.
The airline will offer more than 60 million seats to and from the UK this year, up 5% year-on-year.
