Middle East crisis: UK govt promises more repatriation flights this week as Tui brings home 600 holidaymakers

More UK government-chartered repatriation flights will take off from the Middle East later this week, the defence secretary has confirmed.

Addressing the House of Commons on Monday (9 March), John Healey said more than 37,000 British nationals had so far been evacuated from the Middle East since conflict there began late last month.

Three UK government charter flights have so far taken off, "with more to come this week", said the secretary of state.

"More than 170,000 people have registered their presence, which has allowed us to get them the information, support and advice that they need," Healey continued. "More than 37,000 British nationals have been evacuated since the start of the crisis response."
