The CCOO trade union confirmed on Tuesday that its strike remains in force, contradicting an earlier announcement from rival union UGT that the action had been cancelled following an agreement with Swissport.
According to the Majorca Daily Bulletin, no deal with Swissport has been agreed. The CCOO union added the agreement reached on 31 July relates to a different strike call involving UGT and does not affect the walkouts it has organised.
CCOO confirmed that its planned partial strike action will take place on 4 and 8 August, with walkouts scheduled from 7am to midday and again from 7pm to 10pm local time.
The dispute centres on demands for improved pay.
The industrial action could affect Swissport ground handling services for several airlines operating from Palma, including Tui, Condor, Sunclass, Air Canada, Etihad Airways, AlbaStar and TAP Air Portugal.
Passengers travelling during the strike periods may face disruption, including possible delays involving check-in, baggage handling and aircraft turnaround operations.
The latest uncertainty comes during one of the busiest periods of the year for Palma airport, which is handling high passenger numbers from the UK and other European markets during the peak summer holiday season.
Swissport told TTG it had negotiated "constructively" with union representatives and had reached an agreement with the full Works Council, which includes all unions.
However, it said "a minority group within the Works Council has decided to continue its industrial action on specific days and times outside of that collective agreement".
The company confirmed it was putting contingency measures in place to minimise any disruption, adding that it remained "fully committed to constructive, good-faith dialogue with union representatives" and would continue working towards "a mutually acceptable resolution" with those continuing the strike.
