Under the agreement, which will run to at least until 2028, the expedition line will use Transcend Cruises’ luxury new-builds to operate river cruises each year.
The two brands have started working together to craft bespoke tours, giving travellers what they traditionally expect from a National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions’ ocean sailing. Further details will be announced over the next few weeks, the companies said.
“We know that ‘how you see it’ matters, and that’s why we’ve curated these river voyages with the same depth, care and expertise that define all of our expeditions,” said Lindblad Expeditions chief executive Natalya Leahy, who joined the company in January.
“With National Geographic naturalists and historians, and exclusive events woven into each journey, our guests will explore Europe’s storied rivers in truly meaningful ways.”
Each sailing will feature a team of experts including one Lindblad Expeditions leader and a National Geographic expert, who will take guests on private tours and exclusive sightings.
“Our state-of-the-art new-build river cruise ships offer both a luxury experience, as well as the opportunity to accommodate the lecturing and mind enriching requirements essential for their travellers,” added Transcend Cruises boss Hans Rood.
“With a strong focus on wellness, sustainability and best of services, we are the perfect fit to deliver the programmes Lindblad Expeditions require. By collaborating, we are able to create the most exclusive experiences on Europe’s most spectacular waterways.”
The announcement comes as National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions announced late last week it would set up a travel agent advisory board in the coming months to help the UK become its second-largest source market after the US.
