Aegean will fly twice-a-week to Greece’s capital Athens on Wednesdays and Sundays; flights are on sale now and will get under way from 14 June, with the service operating until 17 September.
Leon McQuaid, Newcastle’s director of aviation development, said the new Aegean service would increase choice for travellers in the North East and allow them to connect onwards from Athens to Greece’s islands and the Middle East.
"Greece is one of the North East’s most popular holiday destinations and there is huge demand for direct services to Athens," he said, adding: "This investment demonstrates great confidence in the North East’s largest airport and the region. We look forward to welcoming Aegean in 2023."
