The initial report by the US National Transportation Safety Board found “multiple breaches of the engine case”.
The team investigating also found several pieces of the high-pressure compressor spool measuring around 7-8 inches in length.
“The powerplants and airworthiness groups will continue documenting the airplane and engine over the next several days. It is anticipated that once the tooling is in place, the left engine will be removed and shipped to a facility to conduct a full teardown,” the NTSB said in a statement.
The jet caught fire on the runway at McCarran airport earlier this week with 170 people on board.
