Its Holiday Rental Check Majorca app is part of its drive to more comprehensively regulate tourism rentals.
The government says the app will help protect those travelling to the islands - and promote sustainable, responsible tourism that doesn’t impact the island or islanders.
Tourists can use the app to search for their rental home through registration number, property name or address to make sire it is compliant with rental laws.
It also features a live map tool with geolocation function so guests can search for legal properties in their locality.
Bel Busquet, vice-president and Balearic minister for innovation, research and tourism, said: “We recognise our responsibility to protect our visitors and be transparent with our rules and regulations.
“The new app allows visitors to have instant access to all the information they need about rental homes and to avoid any risks involved with renting illegal properties.
“Tourism continues to be a main contributor to the Balearic Islands economy and we take on board the challenges and concerns of both locals and visitors.
“Our aim is to develop a long term and sustainable tourism strategy, which provides the maximum benefit for islanders and visitors”.
While tourists will not be prosecuted for booking an illegal property, they risk arriving having already paid to find their property shut for breaching rental regulations.
