The data revealed people in the north-east were the biggest pre-holiday spenders, at an average of £220 per person, followed by Londoners.
Meanwhile, people from the south-east are the most frugal when it comes to pre-holiday shopping, spending around £150 per person on average.
According to chief executive Julia Lo Bue-Said, the data highlights the contribution of outbound travel to the UK economy, which amounts to a total of £49 billion per year.
“When Brits travel, they don’t just spend on the holiday itself and actually make a wide range of other purchases before they even get to their point of departure that deliver revenue to a broad range of economic stakeholders in towns and cities around the country,” she said.
Lo Bue-Said has also called on the government to foster a healthy relationship with the industry by making outbound travel the remit of ministers within the Department for Transport.
“This will deliver strong channels of communication on which a collaborative working relationship can thrive, leading to good policy decisions that secure the future of our industry,” she added.
