Clia has appointed Thomas Boardley secretary general of its European operation.
Boardley will join the association on October 1, bringing “extensive industry body experience”.
His background is in global shipping and port industries.
Boardley’s most recent post was that of executive vice-president corporate and external affairs at Lloyd’s Register.
Starting at OCL as a graduate trainee in 1978, Boardley spent 26 years with the group before joining the board of P&O Containers in 1996.
He was appointed chief commercial and development officer for P&O Ports in 2002 and eventually joined Lloyd’s Register in 2009.
“Tom’s extensive industry body experience makes him a welcome addition to our leadership team,” said Cindy D’Aoust, Clia president and chief executive.
“These are dynamic times for the European cruise market and I look forward to working with Tom to ensure the future continued success of the cruise market throughout Europe.”
