The Atlanta-based carrier said that it expected many of its 139 international flights on Monday to be full, followed by “high passenger volume” in the next few weeks, particularly to destinations such as New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Boston and Orlando.
Delta will operate international routes to 55 destinations in 38 countries on 8 November to take advantage of pent-up demand to the US.
The airline is also increasing flights this winter from key European cities including from London to Boston, Detroit and New York-JFK, and Dublin to New York-JFK.
Ed Bastian, Delta’s chief executive, said: “This is the start of a new era for travel and for many people around the world who have not been able to see loved ones for almost two years.
“While we have seen many countries reopen their borders to American visitors over the summer, our international customers have not been able to fly with us or visit the US.
“We’re grateful to the US government for lifting travel restrictions and are looking forward to reuniting families, friends and colleagues over the coming days and weeks.”
