The operator said a new partnership with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) would accelerate travel’s sustainability transformation.
It is sponsoring a GSTC sustainable tourism course for its hotel partners in Spain, Greece and Turkey after committing to supporting them in achieving GSTC standard within the next five years.
Certified hotels will become part of easyJet holidays’ "eco-certified" collection, designed to make it easier for customers to make sustainable choices when booking their holidays.
Courses support hotels in meeting their sustainability targets, taking best practice from destinations, tour operators and accommodation providers around the world.
Participants will have their efforts certified, and will become eligible to take an optional exam to receive an official GSTC professional certificate in sustainable tourism, also sponsored by easyJet holidays.
"Ever since we launched our holidays business, we’ve been keen to pioneer meaningful change in our industry," said easyJet holidays director of customer and operations, Matt Callaghan.
"With education and collaboration at the heart of our mission to make sustainable holidays mainstream, we’re delighted to be partnering with GSTC to help our hotel partners in Spain, Greece and Turkey enhance their sustainability credentials.
"GSTC does brilliant and innovative work in managing global standards for sustainable travel and tourism so we’re looking forward to continuing to partner with them to deliver holidays that really do give more than they take."
EasyJet holidays became a member of the GSTC in September 2021 and is aiming to have all of its hotel partners GSTC certified by 2025.
Randy Durband, GSTC chief executive, added: “By partnering with the GSTC, easyJet holidays is not only supporting the sustainable transformation of the tourism industry, but also encouraging businesses and individuals to take a proactive approach towards sustainability.
"We believe that through collaborative efforts, we can make a significant impact and ensure that sustainable tourism benefits not just the environment and local communities, but also the long-term success of the industry as a whole.”
