The European Commission has reportedly ruled airlines will be able to provide 5G technology onboard aircraft, as well slower mobile data.
The move could signal the end of mobile devices’ airplane mode, although according to the BBC, the specifics of how the change will be implemented are "unclear".
The deadline for member states to make 5G frequency bands available for use on aircraft is 30 June 2023.
Thierry Breton, EU Commissioner for the Internal Market, told the BBC the plan would "enable innovative services for people" and help European companies grow.
