A new route to Busan, South Korea’s second city, will start, plus another to Tokyo Haneda together with a summer service to Sapporo for the first time. In addition, flights to Tokyo Narita, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka will recommence.
Ole Orver, Finnair chief commercial officer, said: “We look forward to the world opening again. Before the pandemic, Japan was our single largest market outside our home market Finland, and we look forward to returning to all our five destinations in Japan.”
From 27 March 2022, Finnair will offer up to 40 flights a week between Helsinki and Japan. Daily flights to Tokyo Narita and Haneda airports will offer 14 weekly frequencies to the Japanese capital.
Finnair will also fly daily to Nagoya and Osaka and will introduce double dailies to Osaka in June.
The airline’s Sapporo service will be introduced for the summer season for the first time with two weekly frequencies, and Fukuoka in Southern Japan will be served with three weekly flights. Busan will operate three times a week.
Flights from Heathrow to Helsinki rise to four a week for summer 2022, but to cope with the expected rise in demand, Finnair is placing wide bodied Airbus A350 and A330 aircraft on two of the four daily services.
Helsinki Airport is also expanding, with new arrival and departure halls having opened in December, and new security control and check-in area opening in May 2022.
The oneworld alliance member is also adding a new service to Dallas, home of fellow member American Airlines.
