The union Unite announced on Monday (12 June) that 2,000 of its members working as security staff at terminals 3 and 5, as well as the airport’s security campus, will no longer walk out on 24 and 25 June after receiving an offer of an improved 11.5% pay increase.
“Members will now be balloted on the latest offer and they will decide whether or not it meets their expectations,” said Wayne King, the union’s regional coordinating officer.
Deemed "a great deal" by Heathrow management, the offer also includes the guarantee of an inflation-linked pay increase for 2024.
“This a great deal for colleagues, giving them two years of guaranteed above inflation pay rises, alongside further benefits and assurances that they told us they wanted,” added an airport spokesperson.
“We encourage them to accept the deal so that everyone can have certainty and the backdated pay increase that so many have been waiting for.”
Nevertheless, the union warned passengers that if the offer is rejected the remaining 29 days of industrial action – from 30 June to 27 August – will go on as planned, threatening 20,000 summer flights.
