The first of three days’ planned strike action at Southampton airport has been suspended after the airport made striking workers a new pay offer.
Airside operations controllers, firefighters, technicians and engineers at the airport had been due to walk out on Saturday (5 November), with subsequent walkouts planned for 12 and 19 November.
However, the BBC – citing a spokesperson for the airport – reports the action planned for Saturday had been averted following talks with the Unite union at government conciliation service Acas.
The spokesperson said following "positive talks", a new offer would be put to Unite’s members at Southampton airport. "It will be business as usual for our passengers and airlines," they added.
Unite said the action had been suspended while workers consider a new pay offer, one – it claims – that would constitute their first pay rise since 2019.
