From the early hours of Tuesday 4 January, the UK will be reclassified a high-risk area for Covid-19.
The UK is currently in Germany’s highest risk category, a virus variant area of concern.
It means that from 4 January, fully vaccinated travellers or those with an important reason for travel will be allowed to enter Germany.
The changes were confirmed by Germany’s embassy in London on Thursday (30 December).
Transport secretary Grant Shapps hailed the decision a "welcome development for our German colleagues".
Fully vaccinated travellers to Germany from the UK will also not need a negative Covid test to enter the country, and nor will they need to quarantine for 14 days upon entry.
