Clia has branded a decision to raise the US’s travel warning for cruise to its highest level "perplexing" and "disappointing" but stressed its members would continue to do everything within their power to ensure safety onboard.

Cruise ships operating in the US will move to a voluntary system of Covid rules from 15 January 2022

On Thursday (30 December), the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) raised its travel warning for cruise to its highest level – level four. It is currently monitoring more than 90 ships for incidence of Covid-19.

However, Clia has reiterated its belief that cruising during the Covid crisis is safe, and stressed its members would continue to work closely with CDC to uphold high standards of public health and safety.
