Crew onboard two Holland America ships laid-up off the south coast have received festive hampers from local residents.
Volendam and Zaandam are among a number of cruise line vessels to have spent most of the year floating dormant around the UK during the industry’s pause in sailing amid the pandemic.
Residents of the Devonshire town of Brixham sent sweet treats and various goodies (including cards and photos created by local school children) to crew who are away from their loved ones this Christmas.
Captain of Volendam Daniel Bolton and the ship’s hotel director Rene Tuinman (pictured above) received the donations this week.
Bolton and captain of Zaandam Colm Ryan said: "On behalf of the teams onboard and everyone at Holland America Line, we’d like to whole heartedly thank the people of Brixham for the wonderful hampers.
"The generosity and warmth shown by the community has been really humbling, and we are truly grateful for the efforts to spread the festive cheer."
