Hurricane Nicole is expected to reach the east coast of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina on Thursday (10 November), according to the US National Hurricane Center.
The storm swell made landfall overnight, which more than 900 flights on Wednesday (9 November) and 1,000 on Thursday (10 November) to be cancelled.
As of 4pm Wednesday (9 November), Orlando airport suspended commercial and private operations in advance of the approaching storm.
Miami airport said it remained open but warned passengers of cancellations and delays as a result of Nicole.
