The US Transport Security Administration on Thursday (10 March) confirmed its mask mandate, which had been due to expire on 18 March, had been extended until 18 April on the recommendation of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The order also applies to rail travel in the US. It dates to February 2021 and was one of Joe Biden’s first moves as president.
"At [the] CDC’s recommendation, TSA will extend the security directive for mask use on public transportation and transportation hubs for one month through 18 April," said the TSA in a statement.
"During that time, CDC will work with government agencies to help inform a revised policy framework for when, and under what circumstances, masks should be required in the public transportation corridor.
"This revised framework will be based on the Covid-19 community levels, risk of new variants, national data, and the latest science. We will communicate any updates publicly if and/or when they change."
