The Woodford agency is working with TTG Media’s sustainability partner to implement TerraVerde’s self-service carbon measurement toolkit for SMEs.

The package includes a science-based carbon report of your company’s emissions, and a telephone consultation to give tailored recommendations on reducing your carbon footprint over the next eight years as businesses work to halving their emissions by 2030.

Deben Travel has now collected and submitted the necessary data for financial years 2018-19 and 2020-21, which owner Lee Hunt estimates took him around six hours to complete, spread over several weeks.

The information required includes energy bills for the store, amount of paper ordered, how staff travel to the office, and details of any staff fam trips.

“I can already see that we’re spending too much money on paper, for example, and in looking back at VAT receipts I found a few I hadn’t put through yet so we’ll get some money back,” said Hunt.

“For a small business like ours, having your VAT returns in front of you is the most helpful thing, as everything we spent on things like printer paper, staff hotel stays and new computers is all in there,” he advised. “Our old diary has also been essential to look back at educational trips.”

Now its carbon report has been created, Deben Travel will receive expert advice from TerraVerde on where it can most easily reduce emissions over the coming years.

“Then I plan to have a team meeting and get the whole team involved in the changes that we can make, and I hope we can promote to our customers that we’ve been through this exercise, and make sure that the conversation about sustainability is being had with clients.”

TerraVerde Sustainability’s self-managed carbon measurement toolkit is normally priced at £499 +VAT but is offered to all members of TTG+ for just £333 +VAT.
