The five-year joint venture between the two companies comes to an end towards the end of next year, but Chris Mottershead told TTG he is keen to continue the partnership.
“I’m very happy with the JV as it is, but it’s not just my decision,” he conceded. “We have a positive relationship with them [the Co-operative Travel]… I would absolutely like to continue it. I think there is huge value in having the Co-operative Travel as part of our retail estate and I want to continue that.”
It came as Mottershead revealed he is planning to create greater distinction between the two companies next year. “When I came into the business, there was a lack of clarity with regards to certain brands and what they stood for. In the past the Co-op has been treated as an extension of Thomas Cook, even with the shop windows they were always similar. We want to split that,” he said.
