An American Airlines flight departing New York for Heathrow forced another aircraft to abort take-off after crossing a runway, coming within 1,000 feet of collision.
A Delta Boeing 737 bound from JFK to the Dominican Republic slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting the American 777 that was taxiing for take-off to London, the Aviation Herald reports.
The incident on 13 January was so serious that the Delta flight returned to the gate and the crew stood down, with the flight to Santo Domingo delayed 15 hours. The American flight departed as normal for Heathrow.
The US National Transportation Safety Board has begun an investigation.
