Aegean Airlines on Friday launched Bristol’s first ever Athens service, with Aegean offering onward connections to Cairo, Tel Aviv and Beirut via the Greek capital.
Star Alliance member Aegean will operate the route twice a week on Mondays and Fridays. Flights depart Bristol at 1.45pm, arriving in Athens at 7.30pm – a flight time of three hours 45 minutes.
"This is an incredibly exciting milestone for Bristol airport adding Aegean Airlines to the Bristol Airport airline family," said Dave Lees, Bristol airport chief executive.
He continued: "Aegean Airlines is a major global airline and this decision shows confidence in the region. The regular scheduled service between Bristol and Athens opens up a wide range of European and worldwide connections to our customers."
Lees added the airport would seek to work with Aegean to explore "further exciting route opportunities for the future".
Connections highlighted by Bristol include Egypt’s capital Cairo, Israel’s second city Tel Aviv and Lebanon’s capital Beirut.
