The number of new jobs becoming available in travel is outpacing growth in available candidates, new recruitment data has revealed.
New travel job vacancies jumped by 46% in July according to C&M Travel Recruitment making last month’s total the third highest of the year so far.
Compared with previous years, the number was down by 6% versus July 2022, down by 24% versus July 2021 and down by 9% versus July 2018, but up by 7% compared with July 2019.
The number of new candidates seeking travel jobs, though, fell 4% month-on-month in July. Last month’s total was also down by 7% compared with July 2022 and 29% from July 2021.
There was also a 14% month-on-month increase in those being placed in travel roles, meaning placements have now risen for three consecutive months, with July’s total being the highest since March.
Compared with previous years, July 2023 was down by 49% from July 2022, up by 27% from July 2021 and down by 11% from July 2019.
Barbara Kolosinska, managing director at C&M Travel Recruitment, said: "With new vacancies and placements both increasing, and only a small dip in new candidates, July was a positive month for travel recruitment.
"It’s mid-summer with all of the usual holiday distractions, so we don’t expect activity to truly pick up again until September, but last month still saw many travel companies recruiting for a variety of very attractive new roles."
