Speaking to TTG on board the line’s newest ship, Francis Riley said Norwegian Escape had a distinct premium feel, which he directly attributed to the company’s acquisition of Prestige – owner of Regent Seven Seas and Oceania – which was completed at the end of last year.
“The whole ship is a real premium product, from its décor to its hardware, and that is a direct result of us being part of NCL Holdings.
“It’s what ocean cruising is known for, its food - working with the chefs and the team at Oceania and we worked with the design team at Regent so the service is also unbelievable.”
Riley admitted that pricing for Escape was higher than other ships in the fleet, but insisted it was still lower than necessary.
“Pricing is below what it should be, but it needs to reflect the premium nature of the product.
“Generally, this product should command a higher premium than others in the fleet. The Haven [the line’s premium accommodation] is full until April on Escape,” he added.
Riley also revealed that the line was planning an extensive refurbishment for the rest of the fleet.
“We’ll bring all the ships in the fleet to the standard that we see today, with crockery, carpets, food, furniture – they will also have the same look and feel, delivering what Norwegian is all about,” he said.
“Over the next 24 months – the rest of the fleet will be brought up to the same – building on what we already have… Every menu will be brand new – we’ll be rolling this out to the other ships – upgrading the other ships, in crockery and linen and furniture.”
