Konstantinos Santikos, managing director of Santikos Collection; Thodoris Tzoumas, mayor of Skiathos; and Panos Andritsopoulos, president of the Skiathos Hoteliers Association, said "things are looking much brighter today (7 September)".
They said "enormous" efforts have been put into the clean-up process so far, with progress already having been made with water and power fully restored, public transport up and running and roads fully accessible.
Santikos admitted the extreme weather which hit the island on Tuesday (5 September) "certainly tested" the destination’s resilience and capabilities.
"Ensuring the safety of everyone on the island has been the utmost priority, and work has started in earnest to ensure that flights can resume as quickly as possible with priority on repatriation flights and supporting those whose accommodation has been affected," he added.
The Aegean Suites, the brand’s adult only, all-suite hotel, set into the hillside outside Skiathos Town, suffered some minor flooding in a small number of rooms, which Santikos claimed was "rectified swiftly".
It comes after Storm Daniel swept across southern Europe and the Mediterranean earlier this week, bringing high winds and heavy rains – prompting Foreign Office weather alerts for Greece, Italy and Malta, and for airlines to pause their schedules.
