Rail operator Greater Anglia announced on Friday (19 May) trains will double to four an hour during the morning and evening weekday peaks. Trains will run every 15 minutes between 5.10am and 8.10am as well as between 4.10pm and 7.40pm.
“London Stansted has been the fastest-recovering UK airport, so it’s great Greater Anglia is able to provide a fast, turn-up-and-go service for our passengers, staff, as well as local commuters,” said the airport’s managing director, Gareth Powell.
According to Powell, the increased services will encourage more people to ditch their cars and travel in a more sustainable way, while bringing extra investment into the London aviation market.
According to recent data, Stansted’s passenger numbers are almost back to pre-pandemic levels, as more than 25 million people have passed through the airport’s gates over the past year.
Just last month, passenger levels hit 2.4 million, making April the busiest month since September.
