Abta and the CAA confirmed the failure of the Surrey-based Atol holder on Monday (11 October).
The firm traded as Mercator Travel and Revealed Travel under Abta Y488X and Atol 10528.
It specialised in tailor-made holidays and escorted small-group tours to Mexico, central and southern America, Antarctica and the Falklands, and south-east Asia.
Sub-brands included Antarctica Revealed, Belize Revealed, Bolivia Revealed, Brazil Revealed and Cambodia Revealed.
"Mercator Enterprises Ltd ATOL 10528 has ceased trading as an ATOL holder on 11/10/2021," said the CAA. "The company based in Surrey traded under the names Mercator Travel and Revealed Travel."
The CAA said it was collating further information from the company to advise clients with regards to claims.
Abta, meanwhile, said the majority of travel arrangements booked by the firm were flight-inclusive packages carrying Atol protection.
However, it also revealed the company made some non-package sales, including accommodation-only bookings which were not protected with Abta.
Revealed was a member of Lata, the Latin American Travel Association, and was involved of the work of the Lata Foundation supporting social and environmental projects in the region, including efforts to provide clean water, dental and medical support, and training to boost skills.
Danny Callaghan, Lata chief executive, said: “I’m terribly sad to see the loss of Revealed Travel, a real stalwart of the Latin American travel sector. I wish Jeremy [Snelling, co-owner], Ali [Linden, managing director] and all the team the very best, and I hope they can all find a place in the industry so that we aren’t completely losing that knowledge and passion for Latin America.”
In south-east Asia, its ground agents have engaged with projects such as an orphanage in Cambodia and a restaurant in Laos, providing training and job opportunities for disadvantaged youths.
The company was founded in 2009 before being rebranded Revealed Travel in 2016. It is named after Gerardus Mercator, a 16th-century cartographer and map-maker.
