Speaking to TTG on Friday (1 July), Phillipa Harrison said the destination will host a wide range of events, parties and parades to celebrate the global festival celebrating diversity.
"We’re really excited that we won WorldPride for Sydney in 2023," she added. "It is a really exciting event for us. Sydney, and Australia, has always been incredibly welcoming of the LGBT+ community and this is our way to say to those communities, and all of the diverse communities around the world, to come and say g’day."
The event, taking place between 17 February and 5 March, will coincide with the city’s 45th annual Mardi Gras and the 50th anniversary of Australian Gay Pride Week.
There will be an opening and closing ceremony, a party on Bondi Beach, a three-day human rights conference and arts, culture and sports events.
"We want to leave a long and permanent legacy for change," Harrison added. "The chief executive for WorldPride spoke at an event on Tuesday (28 June), and she said it is a party, but it’s a party with a purpose and that’s what pride is about."
