Hanson, who has worked in a range of sectors with extensive commercial experience leading finance departments, replaces Neil Barnes who has held the role on an interim basis since February. 

Prior to his new role with Travel Counsellors, Hanson was chief finance officer at Cawood Scientific and Concept Life Sciences. 

Steve Byrne, chief executive of Travel Counsellors, said Hanson will play a "key strategic role" in driving the next phase of the company’s growth.

"Mat will be an outstanding leader within the TC community and of the finance team who play such an important part in the company’s success and supporting our travel counsellors," he added.

Meanwhile, Hanson said it was an "exciting time" to join a Manchester-based technology company that is "leading the way" in travel.
