World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) data shows that although women make up 54% of the global travel workforce, they still face significant challenges – including barriers to entry, lower pay and job security.
“Putting women centre stage in travel and tourism will ensure a better future for the sector and the global economy,” said president and chief executive Julia Simpson during the forum’s annual Women Deliver Global conference.
“By addressing the barriers and inequalities they face, we can unlock immense potential and drive sustainable growth.”
The figures reflect a recent analysis by TTG, which has shown that women in the UK travel and tourism industry earn significantly less than their male counterparts, with pay gaps ranging between 6.5% and 67%.
