Travelzoo META will provide customers with the opportunity to travel the metaverse, the digital world being pioneered by Facebook parent company Meta.
The company has been partnering with creators to make exclusive experiences for the future Travelzoo META members, with the service currently due to launch in late April.
Travelzoo has not yet released information on the product’s appearance, the quantity of experiences that will be available and the type of destinations users will be able to visit.
Long-term funding for the division will be obtained through annual Travelzoo META membership fees.
Travelzoo plans to hold an investor conference at the end of April, at which it will issue an update on the product’s progress.
Holger Bartel, global chief executive of Travelzoo, said he believed this was the product customers “want to see”, adding the firm’s work would ensure it is ahead of the curve.
“We believe metaverse spaces and its future destinations provide completely new and different experiences that consumers want to see," he said. “The metaverse is disruptive and abundant, with lucrative opportunities for innovative companies that are willing to be the first movers”.
Travelzoo has, though, stressed it will continue to publish exclusive real-world travel and lifestyle deals.
