The bus carrying 20 passengers from Celebrity Summit was involved in an accident on Sunday during a tour on the BVI island of Tortola.
Local news reports said that two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene with the other 18 taken to hospital for treatment. The bus driver was not injured in the crash, which did not involve any other vehicles.
Celebrity’s parent company Royal Caribbean Cruises said in a statement on Twitter: “We are saddened to report the deaths of two Celebrity Summit guests after a local bus accident in Tortola. Several others are being treated.
“Our captain is at the hospital assisting guests, in co-ordination with local officials. 16 of 20 passengers are reported to have been injured, two critically.”
BVI police said that it was investigating the cause of the accident, which happened in the Cane Garden Bay of Tortola.
Cruise ship personnel and staff from the BVI Tourist Board attended the scene of the accident to give assistance to the injured passengers.
