With applications opening today (2 March), the programme is back with accommodation partner Iberostar Hotels & Resorts, and small group adventure partner Intrepid Travel – our TTG Sustainable Travel Heroes for 2026.
Both partners will help shape the running of this year’s programme, providing their knowledge and expertise in five workshops designed and led by TTG. These will cover several areas of responsible travel, from spotting greenwashing to marketing and communication advice.
The first workshop takes place at TTG’s offices in London on Wednesday 29 April and will be a chance to meet both the Heroes and fellow Ambassadors in Training in person. The remaining four workshops will all be online.
Along with the training, all agents will be given the chance to join a fam trip themed around sustainable travel – past trips have included everything from community experiences to wildlife conservation.
Once training has been completed, agents will graduate as TTG Sustainable Travel Ambassadors and be invited to join an exclusive community of currently 60 agents, who have graduated from the programme and remain united in their advocacy for selling responsible travel. The existing group recently gathered for a reunion event in London (pictured below).
Speaking on the importance of responsible tourism to the Iberostar brand, Erika Harms, global director of sustainability, said: "Responsible tourism sits at the heart of how we run the business – our purpose is to champion positive change through positive tourism.
“We want tourism to be a force for good, generating prosperity, improving people’s lives and preserving destinations for future generations,” she added.
Following a successful fam trip to Switzerland by rail in 2026, Intrepid Travel will be hosting a bespoke trip for Ambassadors in Training in 2026, this time focusing on the true meaning of ‘slow travel’.
“It’s not just about a lighter footprint, it’s about going deeper into the culture, experiencing community-led tourism, and with an exciting twist at the end (all to be revealed soon)!”, said Carrie Grant, head of industry partnerships at Intrepid Travel. “Agents will leave with incredible stories to tell – and hopefully a newfound love for travelling at a slower pace.”
