Heidi Alexander has retained her role as transport secretary

Alexander is one of just a handful of ministers, including culture secretary Lisa Nandy, to retain cabinet roles after Burnham entered 10 Downing Street on Monday (21 July).

After quitting as an MP in 2018 to become London's deputy mayor for transport and also deputy chair of Transport for London, Alexander returned to parliament in July 2024 as MP for Swindon South and was later that year appointed secretary of state for transport.

Her department has several junior ministerial roles to which there have, as yet, not been any changes, with Keir Mather for now remaining in post as minister for aviation, maritime and decarbonisation.
