Sri Lanka launches with seven itineraries spanning cultural highlights, wildlife, family adventures and luxury, combining established attractions with lesser-visited areas of the island nation.
The programme has been developed by Jess Andrews, Inside Travel's Indian Subcontinent Programme Manager, who lived in Sri Lanka for three years and has previously developed programmes for Ampersand and A&K.
Among the new trips is Sri Lanka Uncovered, which features several popular destinations "done in a more unusual way", including tea plantations near Ella and wildlife in Wilpattu National Park on the country's north coast.
Wilder Sri Lanka focuses on the country's varied eco-systems, combining jungle, mountains and coastline with visits to quieter national parks. The launch also includes a family adventure itinerary to reflect increased demand from families, as well as a luxury offering featuring boutique accommodation and experiences in the Hatton Hill Country.
InsideJapan doubles undertourism target following 'hidden' destinations success
"You can move from tea-covered hills to tropical coastline, from ancient heritage sites to wildlife reserves, all within the same journey," said Andrews. "It offers exactly the sort of cultural depth and local connection that our travellers are looking for – and that our agents know us for."
Inside Travel Co-Founder and Director Alastair Donnelly said Sri Lanka was a "natural next step" following the launch of India.
"The team are developing some special experiences and initiatives in keeping with the undertourism work that we have been pioneering across some of our other destinations, working with communities to ensure positive impact for both local people and travellers alike," he said.
Andrews added the seven itineraries were an "initial offering", with further development planned as the company builds its network of local partners.
