Outbound's contribution now runs to £57 billion in overall gross value added (GVA) a year, with inbound contributing a further £31.5 billion.
Collectively, international travel supports 1.4 million jobs throughout the UK.
Abta and UKinbound's findings, revealed in a new report issued on Thursday (24 September), will be shared with politicians at the Labour Party conference at the weekend.
The report breaks these contributions down by region to make it easier to appreciate the importance of international travel to the UK. For instance, outbound is worth £6.5 billion a year to the North West, supporting 98,000 jobs, and inbound £3.5 billion.
Abta said regional figures were vital to demonstrating travel current impact, and the potential for further growth with the right policy support.
"It’s also important the government recognises how inbound and outbound travel are interdependent and interlinked," said the association.
"Both use the same infrastructure, such as ports and airports, and can help support flight route viability, which is crucial for regional and national connectivity. A strong outbound sector can help to grow inbound, and vice-versa."
Abta Chief Executive Mark Tanzer said the research showed travel remains an "economic powerhouse", with its benefits being felt "across every nation and region of the UK".
"We know the government is focused on delivering for all parts of the country, and our message is clear: travel is already doing its bit, but with the right policy support we can go even further.
"We look forward to having this conversation with politicians at the Labour party conference, which will include highlighting our policy asks to facilitate a competitive and growing industry."
