Plastic consumption in Tui's hotels fell to 40 grams per guest night in the year to the end of September 2025 (FY25), down by 13% on the previous year and around 30% lower than 2022 levels. The biggest reduction came in Turkey, where Tui Blue hotels cut plastic use from 98g to 50g per guest night in FY25.
The reduction has been driven by a range of measures, including the introduction of water dispensers, refillable bottles and reusable glasses, alongside the removal of unnecessary single-use items.
Plastic straws, stirrers, balloons, plastic cups and laundry bags have been removed, alongside most single-use condiment packaging, while the use of plastic water bottles has almost halved across the Tui Blue portfolio.
Tui is also targeting microplastic pollution by installing microfibre filters across washing-machine wastewater systems at hotels in Spain, Greece, Italy, Morocco and Turkey following the success of their installation onboard its Marella cruise ships last year.
Tui said independent laboratory testing found the filters, supplied by Cleaner Seas Group, can capture up to 99% of microfibres released during washing, preventing them from entering waterways. The collected fibres can then be recycled through a closed-loop system.
The latest measures form part of Tui's wider sustainability programme, with the group committed to eliminating problematic and unnecessary plastic packaging by 2030 through its participation in the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative.
