Dan Hammond, a travel consultant at GoCruise & Travel, and Mary Barnes, now assistant manager of Tui's branch in Chippenham, met at Heathrow Terminal 3 ahead of the Riviera Travel fam last May.
The pair were among a group of 30 agents experiencing the tour first-hand, with the programme featuring cultural excursions and guided visits designed to showcase the destination’s landscapes and heritage.
After returning to the UK, Hammond and Barnes remained in contact and later met up in London, bonding over a shared love of musical theatre. And this week, they announced their engagement onboard a Holland America Line ship.
"It all started with a message after we connected on the Sri Lanka fam trip," said Hammond. "What began as a friendly conversation quickly turned into something more. We realised there was something special there."
He added that the couple's shared highlight was "everything to do with wildlife". "We went on two safaris in Yala National Park and saw elephants and leopards in the wild, as well as some baby turtles," he continued. "It was incredible."
Hammond added the couple will "always be grateful" to Riviera for bringing them together, and told TTG he "wouldn't say no" to his fellow trade helping out with the honeymoon.
"We haven't planned anything yet, but we do want to get married in Greece or Croatia, so a Mediterranean cruise honeymoon would be amazing," he said.
